What is a Writing Coach?
I like to think of a writing coach as a personal trainer or private instructor. Just like you would hire a private tutor for music lessons, dance lessons, or marathon training, you can work with a writing coach to help you achieve your writing goals.
There’s a reason elite athletes, musicians, and artists hire trainers and coaches. It’s because having a guide is the fastest way to get where you want to go.
Here’s what I believe about the value of working with a coach:
- Perspective. Especially when you’re just beginning your journey, it’s hard to see where your strengths and weaknesses are. This is a coach’s gift: to build on your strengths to improve areas that need work.
- Encouragement. Writing is a lonely craft, and it’s easy to get up in your own head and dismiss the work you’re doing as garbage. A good coach will cheer you on.
- Progress. If you’ve never done this before (or are just getting started), you may not have your process refined just yet. A coach can help you design your path and keep you accountable — and both are key to making progress.

One-on-One Coaching

My one-on-one coaching practice offers you the chance to work with me on an ongoing basis, either on multiple iterations of the same project or on multiple projects over the span of several months. You can choose a 3-month package or a 6-month package.
These packages are ideal for writers who are committed to shortening their learning curve and elevating their craft to a professional level as quickly as possible.
All coaching packages include an initial Zoom call to establish goals and a project calendar. Each project milestone includes a project read and a Zoom conference call to discuss next steps.
